Breaking Down Barriers: Getting Britain building? How can we build new homes and sustainable infrastructure?

Overview

Getting Britain building again is one of Labour’s key missions, from more homes, to investment in key infrastructure such as roads and railways. Infrastructure and building sustainable communities is a key enabler to unlock life chances across the UK. Communities that are safe, with a good quality of life and homes people can afford are communities that are sustainable in the long run. For communities that aren’t, they risk losing their talent and driving away the very opportunities from business investment that could transform their fortunes.

Andrew Western, Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston has been described as ‘Parliament’s biggest YIMBY’,
and has proposed that the next Labour government puts a major focus on investment in building homes and infrastructure. This roundtable will explore what that could mean, and the role organisations have to play - from fast- track planning to supporting communities with new development.

Speakers

  • Andrew Western MP, Labour MP for Stratford and Urmston

  • Nick Forbes CBE, former member of Keir Starmer’s Shadow Cabinet
