Alistair Strathern MP joins leading businesses for Westminster Roundtable

Labour MP for Mid Bedfordshire, Alistair Strathern, has joined leading Purpose Coalition businesses for a Westminster roundtable focused on climate, net-zero, skills and the future of work.

Mr Strathern, elected as an MP last year, has already risen the ranks of Westminster as Parliamentary Private Secretary to both Shadow Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Shadow Energy Security and Net-Zero Secretary Rt Hon Ed Miliband.

The roundtable, Chaired by former Member of Keir Starmer’s Shadow Cabinet, Nick Forbes, brought together senior representatives from Purpose Coalition Members, including E.ON, Centrica, Leonardo, Travelodge, Virgin Money, Southeastern Railways and more.

Before entering Parliament, Strathern worked at the Bank of England, where he was Climate Lead for their work with the insurance sector. He’d held a number of roles previously at the Bank of England and had spent a number of years in industry at the fintech bank OakNorth.

Alongside working at the BoE, Alistair had served as a Cabinet member for children services in Waltham Forest council, where he served as a councillor from 2014-23, building on the experience he’d gained starting out after university as a maths teacher.

The event is one of a number of Purpose Coalition roundtables being held with MPs, Shadow Ministers and Ministers as we head towards the next general election - likely to take place later this year, with upcoming sessions including Labour MP for Stratford and Urmson, Andrew Western; Shadow Minister for Energy Security, Dr Alan Whitehead MP; Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities Ashley Dalton MP; and Shadow Minister for Legal Services Alex Cunningham MP.
